Payment processing is the fee Etsy charges to accept card and other payments. It varies by country: a percentage of the order total plus a fixed amount per order. This guide lists the exact rates for every major market and shows what they mean in practice. Source: Etsy Fees & Payments Policy and Etsy Help Center.
The Rates by Country
| Country | Processing fee | Currency | |---|---|---| | US | 3% + $0.25 | USD | | UK | 4% + 0.20 GBP | GBP | | EU | 4% + 0.30 EUR | EUR | | CA | 3% + $0.25 | CAD | | AU | 3% + $0.25 | AUD | | IN | 5% + 25 INR | INR |
Note: the EU regulatory fee is listed separately from processing, and varies by country. Source: Etsy Fees & Payments Policy + Etsy Help Center.
US Example
A $50 item with $5 shipping charged to the buyer: order total $55. Processing is 3% of $55 plus $0.25 = $1.65 + $0.25 = $1.90. Add transaction (6.5%) $3.58 and listing $0.20. Total fees about $5.68.
UK Example
Same $50 item, $5 shipping, but in the UK: order total GBP 55. Processing is 4% plus 0.20 GBP = 2.20 + 0.20 = GBP 2.40. The UK also charges a 0.32% regulatory operating fee, about GBP 0.18. Total fees including everything: about GBP 6.28.
EU Example
Order total EUR 55. Processing is 4% plus 0.30 EUR = 2.20 + 0.30 = EUR 2.50. Transaction 6.5% is EUR 3.58, listing EUR 0.20. The EU regulatory fee varies by country and is marked UNVERIFIED in our data; add it on top if it applies in your country.
Canada Example
Order total CAD 55. Processing is 3% plus CAD 0.25 = 1.65 + 0.25 = CAD 1.90. Canada also charges a 0.50% regulatory fee, about CAD 0.28.
Australia Example
Order total AUD 55. Processing is 3% plus AUD 0.25 = 1.65 + 0.25 = AUD 1.90. No regulatory fee for AU.
India Example
Order total INR 55 (use a larger example for realism: INR 5,000 sale). Processing is 5% plus INR 25 = 250 + 25 = INR 275. India also has a 0.05% regulatory fee. On a INR 5,000 order with INR 500 shipping, processing would be 5% of 5,500 + 25 = 275 + 25 = INR 300.
Currency Conversion on Top
If your shop's currency differs from the buyer's, Etsy charges an additional 2.5% currency conversion fee on the converted amount. This stacks on top of processing and transaction fees. Price with it in mind when you sell internationally. Source: Etsy Fees & Payments Policy.
Building Processing Into Your Price
A common practice is to price so processing is a known slice. On a $50 US sale with $5 shipping, processing is $1.90. Set aside about 4% of every US order for processing, about 4.5% for UK, about 4.5% for EU, about 3.5% for CA and AU, and about 5.5% for IN. Then add the 6.5% transaction fee and the $0.20 listing fee. That gives you a quick sanity check on every price.
Why the Fixed Part Matters
The fixed amount ($0.25, 0.20 GBP, etc.) is charged once per order, not per item. On a small $10 order the percentage is small but the fixed fee dominates: US processing on a $10 order is 0.30 + 0.25 = $0.55, which is 5.5% of the order. On a $100 order it is 3.00 + 0.25 = $3.25, or 3.25%. Higher prices spread the fixed fee better.
Quick Reference Table
US: 3% + $0.25. UK: 4% + 0.20 GBP. EU: 4% + 0.30 EUR. CA: 3% + CAD 0.25. AU: 3% + AUD 0.25. IN: 5% + INR 25. These are the exact numbers in the Etsy Fees & Payments Policy as of 2026-10-06. Always verify in Seller Center before you finalize a price.
Final Note
Processing is a small line on every order, but across a year of sales it is one of the biggest fees you pay. Know your country's rate, count the fixed part, and build it into your price from day one. Source: Etsy Fees & Payments Policy.
